UGANDA POLICE TRAINS PRIVATE GUARDS IN COMBATING TERRORISM

Uganda Police Force has intensified its yearly counter-terrorism training programs for Uganda’s Private Security Organizations at a time the country faced terror attacks in the Capital City of Kampala in 2021.

Commissioner of Police in Charge of Private Security and Fire Arms Department, Charles Ssebambulidde is coordinating this training of the Uganda Police Force.

Represented by SP Fred Kadima, the Commandant said the training will target more than 300 Supervisors of Private Security Organizations from across Uganda. The training will improve the skills of the Private Security Organizations to complement National Security.

“We want to thank you for attending this course, terrorism is a threat to the World not only in Uganda. Before Private Security Companies had not taken much interest but the recent attacks show that your guards must be interested in what happens near them”, said Afande Kadima

Grace Matsiko, Chairman of The Uganda Private Security Association(TUPSA) thanked Uganda Police Force for implementing the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola.

“We promise to compliment National Security in handling the new challenges that include terrorism and others. We ask Private Security Organizations in the country to implement what has been taught to their supervisors”, said Matsiko

Among topics handled include terrorism in general and Improvised Explosive Devices, critical infrastructure, hostile surveillance, management of personnel and supervision, personal security, risk assessment and role of first responders.

ROLE OF PRIVATE SECURITY ORGANIZATIONS IN THE SECURITY SYSTEM OF UGANDA

The role of the PSOs in Uganda is to supplement the security agencies to the people of Uganda. Private security services are now a reality and PSOs are recognized as supplementing the work of the security agencies most especially the police.
